Hey everyone! Welcome to this week’s Rebellious Reviews! This week I’ll be covering the newest movie on Amazon’s streaming service. The new Cinderella! Now, at first, I was actually quite skeptical to watch this since My first thought was you seen one Cinderella movie you’ve seen them all. But I’m very happy to say I was very wrong. The music they have in it was even really entertaining. So, let’s get going, shall we?
Characters:
We all know the usual Cinderella characters: stepmother, stepdaughters, Cinderella, the fairy godmother, prince, etc., etc. But this movie provides quite a few twists to our usual well-known beloved fairy tale characters. For example, our beautiful Cinderella—or rather Ella. Instead of a damsel in distress, we have a strong beautiful girl that has a dream to be a famous dressmaker in a town that doesn’t believe that women should be anything aside from wives. Then, we have the fairy godmother. Or rather fairy godfather, but still goes by the title fairy godmother and is seven times more fabulous. I won’t spoil how he comes into Ella’s life, but it is ten times better than what the original story gives us. Trust me on this guys. There are so many more characters I could analyze like the prince and how amazingly different he is than the usual air-headed boy that can’t recognize a girl if it hit him with a shoe—pun intended. Or the smother and sisters who are just as mean but have a more snotty side and much more heartless. Or lastly the mice, oh the mice. When they turn human, it is a riot trust me. This movie makes these old, tired characters so much more awesome.
Score: 10/10
Graphics/costumes:
More than graphics—seeing as this is a live-action movie, the costumes of this movie are absolutely phenomenal. The dresses that Ella makes for one, are gorgeous. The detail that has been put into them is absolutely phenomenal. Granted, I have a soft spot for costume design, but I do know good costumes when I see them. Especially the townspeople, the fairy godmother—God don’t get me started on how fabulous this man looked, even the prince and the royals. It was very well done.
Score: 10/10
Storyline:
I can’t give much away unfortunately seeing that it will spoil the whole movie—and I will never be someone who writes a review with spoilers galore, only maybe one or two here and there. What I can say is, it was quite well done with the storyline and how they switched it up. It gave a more empowering role to Cinderella, and I greatly appreciated seeing this for once. I only wish we could have seen what became of Ella after the whole story was tied together. And if we would have gotten a little more time with the Fairy Godmother of the fabulous west It would have been that much better.
Score: 8/10
Fangirl Rating: 10/10
Final Score: 38/40
