Fan Girl Favorite: Pocky

Hi everyone, and welcome back to yet another Fangirl Favorite! This time, I’m going to be talking about everyone’s favorite cookie treat for conventions and anime watching! That’s right, I’m talking about Pocky!

Pocky is a delicious Japanese snack that is a cookie-like stick with a flavored candy-like coating from the tip to almost all the way on the bottom. It just cuts off a few inches before the snack ends. There are several different flavors Pocky comes in as well! There’s strawberry, matcha, cookies and cream, chocolate, and of course banana. My personal favorite though has to be a tie between the cookies and cream flavor and the traditional strawberry.

There’s also quite a few fun facts about Pocky that I bet some of you didn’t know. In all honesty, I didn’t know them myself until I looked it up! But hey, knowledge is power and the more you know am I, right?

Anyways, here are the fun facts that you can share around with your friends and look like a regular Pocky connoisseur.

  • The name “Pocky” according to the creators, comes from the Japanese word: Pokkin. They chose that word because it’s apparently like the sound it makes when you eat it. Cute right?
  • We don’t have to deal with sticky fingers when eating our precious treat because the Pocky stick isn’t fully coated is thanks to the similar thinking of the popular Japanese dish Kushi Katsu. Or Japanese skewered fried pork
  • Pocky day—yep, something like that actually exists! Began on November 11, 1999. On the Japanese calendar, 1999 is the 11th year of Heisei. So November 11, 1999, translates to 11-11-11. And putting several Pocky sticks together looks like all those ones! Creative is it not?

Well, now that we are now all versed in the world of Pocky, I believe that concludes this week’s Fan Girl Favorite! Tune in next time my little Rebels for more awesome content!

See y’all next time!
